In what I thought was a very petty display of leadership, Senator Dave Cox-R
questioned the literacy of local fellow blogger Sacto Dan.
Sacto Dan wrote a post entitled "Republican State Senator Cox Backs Mileage Tax". In the post there is an excerpt of the Senator's November 2005 Newsletter. I read the excerpt and it certainly sounds to me that Cox supports the Mileage Tax.
So today on the Eric Hogue Show, I hear Eric interviewing Senator Cox. I
must tell you that I have two issues here:
The first issue is the simple fact that Senator made this personal by
attacking Sacto Dan's literary skills. The second issue is how Eric Hogue
bowed down to Cox. I have always been a fan/supporter of Hogue, but I was
shocked to hear Hogue's comments.
Here is a brief transcript (to my best recollection) this morning on The Eric
Hogue Show:
EH: "You're simply looking for input here, this is not an endorsement"SC: "...It's regrettable that some people do not have the ability to read and
comprehend."EH: "Well, and once again, we put Sacto Dan out in the hallway and we're
beating him with a wet noodle. And he will be making a statement here short
order"
Well I think the Senator did a very poor job of choosing his words. Sacto
Dan simply made an observation based on the comments in the Senator's
Newsletter. Hogue led the Senator by his "You're simply looking for input
here, this is not an endorsement" comment.
They go on to discuss the Governors $50 billion dollar bond issue.
In closing Hogue and Cox fire off these comments:
EH: "State Senator, anytime you want me to bang on the Blogosphere, you call my show. I got your back"SC: "Well, you know. Listen, I think, I just give enormous credits to the bloggers and the work they do. But it's disappointing when you have someone
who can't read and then makes assumptions about what you said. I have real
problems with that."
After searching the Internet, I finally found a copy of Senator Cox's
November 2005 Newsletter. Hearing the passion in his voice this morning
when he was talking to Eric Hogue, and reading his newsletter, I too believe
he the supports the tax.
Sacto Dan has the same letter on his blog as I am showing here. Comments the Senator made in his November 2005 Newsletter:
Financing Transportation InfrastructureFor several years now, experts in transportation finance have been talking
about the antiquated way we finance transportation infrastructure, both roads
and transit. Basically the problem is that we rely on a combination of sales
and gasoline taxes to provide funds, but the taxes do not keep up with
inflation -- especially in the cost of construction of transportation
facilities -- or with the increased fuel efficiency of cars. It also makes no
sense if we decide that we want to reduce the use of fossil fuels such as
gasoline to improve our air quality.I recently read an interview with Professor Martin Wachs of U.C Berkeley, a
respected expert on transportation issues. He is the former Director of the
Institute of Transportation Studies. Professor Wachs points out that in order
to increase transportation funds, we currently are in the position of
advocating for increased sales of gasoline. He advocates a switch to a more
direct user fee based on the number of vehicle miles driven by each vehicle
registered in the state. There are technologies being tested which would
report a vehicle's miles driven and collect a fee while not maintaining a
record of overall usage. This would satisfy privacy concerns. He also
advocates the use of High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes, which would create
additional highway lanes and charge for their usage based on the time of day.The leaders in the Legislature are talking about ways to increase funds for
our state's infrastructure needs. There will be large bond proposals
introduced in the Legislature early next year.I am interested in your reaction to these types of proposals. Should we sell
more bonds? Should we raise gas or sales taxes? Or should we consider more
innovative approaches? Send me your thoughts on the different methods of
financing this critical need.
It sounds to me like the Senator is asking for input and at the same time
voicing his support of this Mileage Tax.
I think Senator Cox needs to issue an apology to Sacto Dan and display it on
the Senator's website. But that's just my opinion.

Comments on California State Senator Questions Sacto Dan's Literacy
It is very clear that he wants more money and wants his constituents to tell him how they want their pockets picked. He certainly does not state that he dislikes any of these methods.
|| Posted by laxpat, November 15, 2005 08:25 AM ||Sounds like Cox got caught straddling the fence.
|| Posted by Nickie Goomba, November 15, 2005 10:42 AM ||to be honest, it doesn't seem like he ever supports the tax. i just think he was giving an argument for why it might be something the legislature considers. but i do think that the senator went a little over the top by attacking sactodan, it was totally unnecessary. to be more positive, sactodan should feel flattered that the senator thinks so highly of what sactodan says and puts on his blog.
|| Posted by the telfon pawn, November 15, 2005 11:00 AM ||Careful here...
The Senator spoke with Dan personally, first (on the phone, and personally). He addressed his concerns with Dan openly.
Dan was typing a retraction as I was speaking with the Senator (about numerous issues). We were ALL laughing at the station because it was humorous and interesting.
Yes, the Senator was upset...and Dan was too, understanding that he 'got it wrong'...
I was playing peace keeper/maker, and Sacto Dan knew it...as well as the audience.
Careful, be very careful here people. Remember, DAN WAS WRONG, and the Senator came on the show to address the issue, answer the questions and face the fire. It was Dan who 'admitted' the error, so make humor and save everyone from a rough moment.
As far as the Senator's "attack", you have to know Dave to understand him...it was sarcastic, and that IS Dave Cox, he is a wiley cuss at times - and that is why we like him.
Does the Senator need to offer an apology? No, when your a blogger commenting on elected officials newsletters, webiste and statements...YOU HAVE ENTERED THE ARENA.
Dan has thick skin, if not...he will soon. Believe me, your heart will grow callous, as well as your skin.
|| Posted by Eric Hogue, November 15, 2005 07:17 PM ||To make too much of this is poor judgement.
Dave Cox's childish actions remind me of his thick skinned staffer Chris Mays. Like member ...like staffer
|| Posted by Sacramento GOP 223, November 15, 2005 11:07 PM ||Sacramento Gop 223, lose your squishy or hard-right angst against Chris Mays. Chris has always been consistent.
As to the rest of this, this will work itself out...
|| Posted by Aaron Park, November 16, 2005 12:36 AM ||I find it funny how wingers in Placer County attack people by calling them squishy. Whatever happened to attacking people based on the premise of if they are ethical or not. What has politics come to?
Frankly. I would support a squish any day over a sleazebag. Granted both make the party look horrible (FYI im 15000% PRO-LIFE)....but at least the squish won't bring the prestige and virtue of the GOP down (unlike sleazy politicians).
An elected official belittling a poor constituent over the airwaves is just classless.
|| Posted by Funny, November 16, 2005 12:07 PM ||Being Pro-Life doesn't make you conservative. Supporting limited, locally-center government policies makes you conservative. Supporting family values makes you conservative.
All things, I might add, that Senator Cox has a history of standing behind and championing.
|| Posted by CarmichaelMike, November 16, 2005 01:17 PM ||hiring staffers that smoke pot...is that family values?
|| Posted by , November 17, 2005 08:15 AM ||Chill folks.
Dan's a big boy. He can take some ribbing from Dave Cox, and yes he's in the arena so expect some ribbing. You don't blog with thin skin. I've admired the guy since he was a Sac County Sup. He's a curmudgon(sp?) at times, but is the best thing we have going in the Belly of the Beast.

"14 species of large animals capable of domesitcation in the history of mankind.
13 from Europe, Asia and northern Africa.
None from the sub-Saharan African continent. "
Favor.
And disfavor.
They point out Africans’ failed attempts to domesticate the elephant and zebra, the latter being an animal they illustrate that had utmost importance for it's applicability in transformation from a hunting/gathering to agrarian-based civilization.
The roots of racism are not of this earth.
Austrailia, aboriginals:::No domesticable animals.
The North American continent had none. Now 99% of that population is gone.
AIDS in Africa.
Organizational Heirarchy
Heirarchical order, from top to bottom:
1. MUCK - perhaps have experienced multiple universal contractions (have seen multiple big bangs), creator of the artificial intelligence humans ignorantly refer to as "god"
2. Perhaps some mid-level alien management
3. Evil/disfavored aliens - runs day-to-day operations here and perhaps elsewhere
Terrestrial management:
4. Chinese/egyptians - this may be separated into the eastern and western worlds
5. Romans - they answer to the egyptians
6. Mafia - the real-world 20th century interface that constantly turns over generationally so as to reinforce the widely-held notion of mortality
7. Jews, corporation, women, politician - Evidence exisits to suggest mafia management over all these groups.
Movies foreshadowing catastrophy
1985 James Bond View to a Kill 1989 San Francisco Loma Prieta earthquake.
They can affect the weather and Hurricane Katrina was accomplished for many reasons and involves many interests, as anything this historical is::
1. Take heat off Sheenhan/Iraq, protecting profitable war machine/private war contracts
2. Gentrification. New Orleans median home price of $84k is among the lowest in major American cities, certainly among desirable cities.
Our society gives clues to the system in place. We all have heard the saying "He has more money than god." There is also an episode of the Simpsons where god meets Homer and says "I'm too old and rich for this."
This is the system on earth because this is the system everywhere.
I don't want to suggest the upper eschelons are evil and good is the fringe.
But they have made it abundantly clear that doing business with evil (disfavored) won't help people. They say only good would have the ear, since evil is struggling for survival, and therefore only the favored could help.
The clues are there which companies are favored and which are disfavored, but they conceal it very hard because it is so crucial.
I offer an example of historical proportions:::
People point to Walmart and cry "anti-union".
Unions enable disfavored people to live satisfactorly without addressing their disfavor. This way their family's problems are never resolved. Without the union they would have to accept the heirarchy, their own inferiority.
Unions serve to empower.
Walmart is anti-union because they are good. They try to help people address and resolve their problems by creating an enviornment where there are fewer hurdles.
Media ridicule and lawsuits are creations to reinforce people's belief that Walmart is evil in a subsegment of the indistry dominated by the middle and lower classes.
Low-cost disfavored Chinese labor is utilized by corporate america to maximize margins. They all do it. Only WalMart gets fingered because they are the ones who help, and those who seek to create confusion in the marketplace want to eliminate the vast middle class who have a real chance and instead stick with lower classes who may not work otherwise. So they dirty him up while allowing the others to appear clean.
The middle class is being deceived. They are being misled into the unfavored, and subsequently will have no assistance from their purchases with corporate america.
I believe the coining of the term "Uncle Sam" was a clue alluding to just this::Sam Walton and WalMart is one of few saviors of the peasant class.
Amercia is a country of castoffs, rejects. Italy sent its criminals. Malcontents.
Between the thrones, the klans and kindred, they "decided" who they didn't want and acted, creating discontent and/or starvation.
The u.s. is full of disfavored rejects. It is the reason for the myriad of problems not found in European countries. As far as the Rockafellers and other industrialists of the 19th century go, I suspect these aren't their real names. I suspect they were chosen to go and head this new empire.
Royalty is the right way to organize a society. Dictatorships and monarchies are a reflection of the antient's hierarchical organization.
Positions go to those who have favor with the rulers, as opposed to being elected.
Elections bring a false sense of how the world is. Democracy misleads people.
Which is why the disfavored rejects were sent to the shores of America::To keep them on the wrong path.
Jesus Christ is a religious figure of evil. These seperatist churches formed so they could still capture the rest of the white people, keeping them worshipping the wrong god.
And now they do it to people of color, Latinos and Asians, after centuries of preying upon them.
Simpson's foreshadowing::Helloween IV special, Flanders is Satan. "Last one you ever suspect."
"You'll see lots of nuns where you're going:::hell!!!" St. Wigham, Helloween VI, missionary work, destroying cultures.
Over and over, the Simpsons was a source of education and enlightenment, a target of ridicule by the system which wishes to conceal its secrets.
Since Buddism doesn't recongnize a god, the calls are never heard, and Chinese representation is instead selected by the thrones.
Budda was the Asian's Jesus Christ::: bad for the people. "They came up at the same time for a reason."
Jews maim the body formed in the image of "god", and inflicted circumsision upon all other white people, as well as the evil that is Jesus Christ.
I think about how Jews (were used to) created homosexuality among Slavics, retribution for the Holocaust.
Then I think of the Catholic Church and its troubles.
What connection is here between Jews and the Catholic church???
If it is their sinister motives that’s behind the evil that is Jesus Christ are they being used at all?
Perhaps it is them who are pulling strings.
Their bondage in Egypt proves their disfavor. The Jew leaders decided to prey on the up-and-coming Europeans to try to fix their problems with the ruling elite, a recurring aspect of their methodology.
