Sacramento Queens Kings Make Royal Mistake

Today, the Sacramento Kings traded Peja Stojakovic for Indiana Pacer Ron Artest. I think this is huge mistake. Artest has proven to be a disgrace to the NBA.

That's exactly what we need. A player who spends the majority of his time warming the bench due to suspensions. Up until last year, I have always has complete faith in Geoff Petrie, but he seems to be out of control.

“Ron Artest is going to bring a dimension to this team that we haven’t had in a long time, maybe since I’ve been in Sacramento, in terms of his defensive abilities, his presence on the court, his versatility, his size and strength,” Petrie said. “Given where we are at this point of the season, we think he’ll come in here and really make an impact.”

It feels to me like the Kings are in self destruct mode. I have only been a Kings fan for a short time, about 8 years, I have seen the "Dream Team" being torn apart.

Back in the day, before we lost Scot Pollard, Hedo Turkoglu, Vlade Divac, Chris Webber, Doug Christy, Bobby Jackson and now, Peja Stojakovic., we had a good team and we had depth. Now, we have a snowballs chance in hell.

Granted, the Kings had their share of injuries and issues. But they had the potential to go all they way. Now they have the potential to be lousy. They might as well as trade off Bibby.

18-24, Fifth in the Pacific

So long Peja, you will be missed...

Peja embodies nearly everything that is wrong with Europe. HE'S A PUSSY.

That man was born to be an NBA great. He's 6'9, an amazing three point shooter, on a team that does nothing but pass, a fast paced league--and what does he do? Stops improving after 4 years.

He's a wuss. He could be amazing. Not an just an All-Star, he could be a legend. But he won't, not now, not ever.

In a city that loves its players, he hardly does anything in the community. Acts like a spoiled brat and whines all the time.

The Kings are horrible because they made a mistake. That mistake was siding with Peja over Webber. Webber may of been inconsistant but at least he occasionally delivered.

I'm glad he's gone and will joyously watch as he fades into obscurity.

They should have traded Webber and Peja for Kobe.

It has been my thought that Jeff Petrie knows more than I do about picking talent, but this one makes me wonder. Players with troubled pasts can go both ways. Denis Rodman was a world class circus freak, he also won a few championships. Rasheed Wallace was a head case in Portland, but thrives in Detroit and now has a ring. These examples are troubled, emotional players to be sure, but Artest is unstable. I hope that Ron can get his mind right, but its a huge gamble.

Second, I like Peja. He seems like a good guy and has vast amounts of talent, the problem with Peja is he’s not a gamer. I was sitting in the stands at Arco during game 7 against the Lakers. He can't take the pressure. He could be Larry Bird, but he isn't, he is a soft outside shooter with a bad back. He has wanted out of Sacramento since Vlade left and his heart is clearly not with the Kings.

Webber, a dope smoking kid who took illegal money from a booster and ran his coach out of town in Oakland, turned out to be a very bright star for the Kings.

Jimmy Jackson, a head case that fights with everyone on every team he has been on, turned out to be a great role player for the Kings.

Bonzi Wells, a dope smoking malcontent with Portland,,,, well its still early, but he looks to be a solid player.

Ron Artest,,, we will see.

I've been following the Kings for more than 50 years. That's right, I watched them win the NBA championship when they were the Rochester Royals. Then they started making mistakes.

None was BIGGER than trading a new player, Bill Russell, to the Celtics for a guard named Sihugo Green. It's been downhill since then, until they arrived in Sacramento. I loved the team with Webber, Divac, Peja, Christy and Bibby. Now only Bibby is left from that group.
Oh well...
